Privacy statement

Sensunova is a massage therapist directory. Our whole business is helping you find a therapist — not trading in your personal information. This statement explains what we collect, what we do with it, and the rights you have under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

What we collect, and why

When you browse: nothing personal. The site doesn't require an account to browse, and we don't run ad trackers.

When you enter the tantric section: that section, and only that section, is for adults 18 and over, so we ask you to confirm your age when you enter it. We record that a confirmation was made — the page you were going to, your browser's user-agent string and a one-way, salted hash of your IP address (never the address itself) — so there's a record that the age check took place. The rest of the site never asks.

When you contact us or request a booking: your name, email address, cell number if you give it, and whatever you write in your message. We use it to answer you and — if you've asked for a booking — to pass your request to the therapist concerned. That's the entire purpose.

When you request a booking while signed in: the request is also linked to your account. That link is what lets you rate the therapist after your visit, and it lets you see your recent requests on your account page.

When you rate a therapist: only registered members can rate a therapist, and only one they booked through their Sensunova account — one rating per therapist. That's why each rating is tied to your account and the booking behind it. The rating itself is just your star scores and any tags you tick from a fixed list — there's no free text. Ratings are anonymous — your name is never shown, and they publish in batches of three so no one rating is shown on its own. A profile shows only totals — averages, the star breakdown and a count for each tag — never one person's rating. So that one person can't rate a therapist many times from several accounts, we keep a salted hash of your internet connection (never the address itself) with the rating for 30 days.

When you list your practice: the details you give us for your public profile (name, areas, services, hours, photos) are published on the directory — that's the point of a listing. Photos you upload are stored with our storage provider and shown on your profile; when you delete one, it's removed. Billing details stay private.

Your account

Signing in: an account is your email address and nothing more. There's no password: when you sign in, we email you a link. We keep only a one-way fingerprint (a hash) of that link, never the link itself, with your email address and a salted hash of your IP address. The link works once, within 15 minutes (or within 7 days for a link the Sensunova team sends you, such as a new listing's invitation). We also note when you last signed in.

Staying signed in: signing in starts a session on that device, which lasts up to 30 days or until you sign out. We store the session as a hash too, with the time it was last used and your browser's user-agent string, so a session can be recognised and ended.

Nova: we record when your membership starts and ends. Nothing is charged automatically, and we hold no card details.

Favourites and alerts (Nova): the therapists you save, the alerts you choose (a favourite available now, new listings in provinces you pick), and a note of each alert email we send you, so you never get the same alert twice. Alert emails go only to members who switched them on.

Limits on sign-in emails and forms: to stop abuse, we count sign-in requests per email address and per IP address, and form posts per IP address, for up to a day. The counters hold one-way hashes, never the addresses themselves.

Who sees your information

Booking requests go to the therapist you chose, and nobody else gets your details: we don't sell, rent or hand over personal information unless the law requires it. Your account, favourites and alerts are seen only by you and the small Sensunova team that runs the site. Therapists never see who rated them or who saved them as a favourite.

We use service providers to host the site, store our data and send our emails. They handle your information only to run those services for us.

How long we keep it

Correspondence is kept for as long as we need it to help you, billing records for the periods tax law requires, and the link between each rating and the booking behind it until you delete your account.

Your account stays until you delete it. Sessions end after 30 days or when you sign out; sign-in links expire after 15 minutes (7 days for one the team sends you) and are deleted a day later; sign-in and form counters are cleared within two days; the connection hash kept with a rating is cleared after 30 days.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time: sign in, open My account and choose Delete my account. It takes effect straight away.

Deleted: your account and email address, your sessions on every device, your Nova membership, your favourites, your alert settings and the record of alerts sent to you.

Kept, without your name: ratings you gave stay part of each therapist's scores, but their links to your account and to the booking behind them are removed, so nothing ties them to you any more. (The hash of your internet connection kept with a rating is cleared when its 30 days are up, as for everyone.)

Kept by the therapist: booking requests you sent are the therapist's record of your enquiry. They keep the contact details you gave in them, no longer linked to an account. We also keep the form as it was sent (the same details, with your browser's user-agent string and a salted hash of your IP address) as our record of what reached us. If you'd like those removed too, email us and we'll take care of it.

Your rights

You may ask us at any time what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (unless a law requires us to keep it). Email hello@sensunova.co.za and a real person — not a queue — will sort it out. If you're not happy with our answer, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Cookies

The site works without tracking cookies. We set three, each only when you need it:

• sn_age is set only when you confirm your age to enter the tantric section: it's signed so it can't be altered, holds nothing but that confirmation, and lasts 30 days so you aren't asked on every page.
• sn_session keeps you signed in. It holds a random code, not your email address, can't be read by the page's scripts, and lasts up to 30 days or until you sign out.
• sn_auth is set alongside it and holds only the number 1, so the page knows to show "My account" instead of "Sign in".

If we ever add analytics, it will be privacy-respecting and this page will say so first.
